Kallen's Advice:
Make contact with the school early and get to know the professors. They're more likely to fight for you and to send you scholarship opportunities if they know you. Ask questions, meet them in person if you can. It will help in the long run.
Stay organized. Make a list for each school of materials and due dates. It will help you get everything in on time. Speaking of which, turn everything in as early as possible. You'll thank yourself when others are scrambling to get it all together during busy weeks of the semester.
Apply for as many scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships as possible.
Take advantage of all the opportunities offered to you. They help you figure out what you like and they're helpful for applications.
If you can't find a school with a program you want, use the library databases to find an article about what you want to study. Find out where the author went to school or teaches. That's how I found the only program that really had what I wanted.
