Gerontology & Geriatrics

Careers in Aging - Consider the Possibilities   Jon Hendricks, Ph.D. is the Director of the University Honors College at Oregon State University. He has created a document for the Association of Gerontology in Higher Education that provides direction for those considering working in geriatrics.

Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of West Virginia University's Center on Aging

  Provides programs with the issues of aging in mind. They strive to provide for the development of excellence in geriatric/gerontologic service, education and research. They support an undergraduate certificate, two graduate certificates and a practitioner certificate in gerontology. They also produce two newsletters, a resource directory, and reports on aging.
U. of Minnessota - Older Adult Health Program   The University of Minnesota’s School of Nursing has an Older Adult Health Program that will ready a student for health promotion and disease prevention in a community-based environment. One can obtain an interdisciplinary minor in gerontology.

Health Informatics

Programs in Health Care Informatics prepare student in the applications of computer and information sciences to support and manage all health care activities ranging from those pertaining to the care of the sick, to health promotion and disease prevention, medical and health professions education, health sciences research, and management efforts directed toward solutions of problems in the delivery of health care, including resource optimization and cost effectiveness. Minority Health Education
Minority Recruitment and Retention   AAMC programs designed to improve the recruitment and retention of minority students and faculty.
The Minority Student Clearinghouse   It provides brief descriptions of educational and research activities around the country to increase the numbers of underrepresented minority students and faculty.
NINDS   The National Institute for Neurological Diseases and Stroke (NINDS): The Diversity in Neurological Sciences page describes programs at the NINDS related to the education and recruitment of minority students and faculty in the neurological sciences.
NIGMS - Division of Minority Opportunities in Research   The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS): The Division of Minority Opportunities in Research administers research and research training programs aimed at increasing the number of minority biomedical scientists. The Frontier Nursing Service is a family centered healthcare system complimented by a long standing commitment to education focused on advanced nursing practices.
