Career Center: What is your current employment and how did you acquire it? What struggles and unknown hardships did you encounter as a recent graduate?
"Leaving the positive, close-knit community of Hanover was extremely hard at first, particularly on my first day at McKinney. While I attended Hanover, I think I took for granted the personal attention, accessibility, and positive reinforcement that surrounded me. It was hard to leave my HC friends and move on to a new community and experience. But, I soon found that my experiences at HC shaped and prepared me to forge my own path and succeed." How did the Career Center help you in your job search?
"The Career Center helped me tremendously while I was at Hanover. I took personality tests, attended workshops and SAND, and had the opportunity to learn from Margaret Krantz individually. At first, I was hesitant to seek help and clear up my indecision. However, I found that the caring staff of the Career Center allowed me to understand that my confusion about my future was not only normal, but expected. I was able to explore options and realize that I did indeed want to attend school." Do you have any words of wisdom or advice to share with Hanover students? "A little advice from a recent grad: soak it all in and do everything you can to prepare for the next step. I didn't prepare for life after graduation until my senior year and I wish that I began preparing sooner. There are so many wonderful resources at Hanover and it would be neglectful to not take advantage of them while you can. Now, don't stress and not enjoy your years at Hanover, but remember that Hanover is preparing you for the next step. Do not be afraid to take it." |
