PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES - Practice Professionalism now!
Employers expect to see professional behaviors before and during the application process; lacking these can keep you from getting the job. Practice these behaviors now so they will feel natural to you over the summer and beyond:
· Enthusiasm: Look for ways to contribute and put thought and energy into your work;
· Punctuality/Dependability: Work as scheduled, be on time, complete work when promised;
· Ethics: Behave with integrity at all times and keep personal matters on personal time;
· Courtesy: Show respect to co-workers, clients, and customers; avoid using profanity;
· Initiative: Don't always wait to be "told", offer your skills in support of the company's mission;
· Social Media: DO NOT criticize current or former employers, co-workers, classmates, etc., and ALWAYS show good judgment in your photographs and posts. If you wouldn't want to claim responsibility for it on the front page of the New York Times, don't post it.
· Read and Respond: Be sure to read emails FULLY and COMPLETELY and respond as requested. Not replying when asked is akin to ignoring a direct request, and reflects badly on you.
