Thank you for your time, expertise and support of the fifth annual Student-Alumni Networking Day (SAND)! This year's event will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in the
Science Center.
Dress for this event is business casual. To prepare, please:
- Find your name on the schedule below (you might be signed up for several sessions!)
- Carefully read the "Overview and Talking Points" for each of your sessions for specific instructions;
- Email suttert@hanover.edu with any changes, corrections, questions, or website links;
- Take a glance at the descriptions students will receive about the sessions.
Please stop in the Alumni Hospitality Room in SCC 102 for a respite from all the activities.

Networking 101 Workshop: How to and Practice
This workshop provided hands-on, practical tips for adept, productive relationship building at a network event. It also prepared students for the actual networking event held at the end of the day.
Tips included how to:
- Introduce yourself
- Properly shake hands
- Converse while balancing food and drink
- Listen while multi-tasking
- Plan for effective, meaningful conversation

Elevator Pitch Workshop
After a brief introduction to crafting an elevator pitch, you will listen to alumni give their elevator pitches, then craft one of your own and practice that pitch with alumni. Alumni will listen and coach you on your pitch. You will rotate around the room to practice with each alumnus.
During this session, you will:
- Receive a brief introduction describing how to craft an elevator pitch.
- Hear examples of alumni giving their pitches.
- Develop your own pitch with guidence.
- Practice your pitch on alumni.

Mini - Mentoring with an Alumni
Alumni meet one-on-one with you in a casual setting to answer questions, give advice and suggestions on transitioning from Hanover to your first job.
Possible topics to discuss with an alum are:
- I have no career goal or only a vague one, what do I do?
- I have a career goal, what do I do next?
- Did you have a career goal by senior year?
- Did your career path go as you expected?
- Where do I look for open jobs?
- What strategies should I use to find my first job after college?
- What if I don't like my first job, what do I do?
- What can I do now to increase my chances of finding employment after college?
